First gain the Victory and then make the best use of it you can

Posted by: anothershore on: Sunday, July 30, 2006

I’ve had a successful weekend in many ways – I found a studio apartment just a stones’s throw from the Victory Monument at a reasonable price, AND it’s got a rooftop swimming pool and a fridge. And the serial photos reveal several more millimetres of progress, mouthwise. I took Dr S. at his [...]

Say Aaaargh…!

I’ve got a virus.  Not a medical one, you’ll be pleased to know, but a computer one.  The medical side of things are OK; I went to see Dr S. again today and he said about 80% of the graft had taken, which is quite good apparently.  I’ve got to do mouth exercises and go [...]

Musings about the Climate

Posted by: anothershore on: Thursday, July 27, 2006

It’s been noticeably cooler today, or maybe I’m just getting used to it. But I didn’t need to use the airconditioning when I got back this evening. I think it’s probably cooler in my room, because it’s on the 29th floor, where the air is bound to be thinner and colder (I think. [...]

Conservation Peru

A round coffee that has medium body and soft acidity with mild nut flavours.
This is the environmentally friendly and fair-trade option available at Starbucks today (where there were no free wireless networks available, by the way ), benefitting more than 1500 farmers, just in case anyone thought they were a multinational global megacorp [...]

Must remember not to suck

Posted by: anothershore on: Monday, July 24, 2006

According to Dr S, that is.  Such eating or drinking methods could result in the skin grafts being sloughed off in dramatic fashion.  So I had only a fried egg and my antibiotic tablet for breakfast.  I think I might end up EVEN SLIMMER after this week.  I’m now off to the Bug and Bee [...]

Heaven can wait

Well, I survived, and in reasonably good condition. The anaethetist, it turns out, was formerly a fellow at Bristol and very anglophilic, and the surgeon himself was also very friendly. The operation seems to have been a success, though the next week will be crucial regarding survival or otherwise of the skin graft.
If [...]

Propofol, Sir?

In Bangkok at last…
Just time for a quick note today: am off to the hospital at 1pm, which is really 8am, and I’ve been awake for about 4 hours already. Disorientated! In the meantime, here’s a pic of the view from my room. It’s a bit blurry, but then so is my [...]

Phew, wot a scorcher

Posted by: anothershore on: Tuesday, July 18, 2006

It’s supposed to have been hotter in Berlin than Bangkok, so I guess I’ll be in for a pleasant surprise on Friday.  I’m meant to be ironing, cleaning the apartment and generally getting ready, but it was too hot, so I watched a video of the US “Queer as Folk”, dubbed into German.  The voices [...]

A quick trip to Starbucks

Posted by: anothershore on: Monday, July 17, 2006

Well, the time’s passing so quickly, that I decided to go to Starbucks. Just for old times’ sake, of course. In a few days (when I’ve recovered from the general anaesthetic), I’ll be blogging from Starbucks in Bangkok. The main difference is that in Berlin, everyone sits outside with their Frappucinos because [...]
